JEAN-PHILIPPE BEC (French Composer)

Born in Toulouse in 1968, Jean-Philippe Bec made his first musical studies at the National Conservatory of Region of his hometown. He completed his first apprenticeship with several gold medals in piano, orchestration, chamber music and musical training and he has followed his piano studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music of BRUSSELS (Belgium).
He won a first prize in 1991 in Nicole HENRIOT-SCHWEITZER's class and an the Superior Diploma in 1995 in the Class of Sonia ANSCHÜTZ. He then worked intensely for 2 years with his Master Jean FASSINA. 
From 1996 to 2000, he deepened his study of musical theory (Harmony, counterpoint, fugue), Analysis, Orchestration and Composition at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, in the classes of Gérard GRISEY, Thierry ESCAICH, Michaël LEVINAS, Jean-François ZYGEL, Marc-André DALBAVIE, Roger BOUTRY and Bernard de CRÉPY. He obtained several first prizes and became holder of the certificates of superior training in writing, and in composition of C.N.S.M.D.P (Master Degree). In the final competition ending the class of composition in 2000, Jean-Louis FLORENTZ notices his concerto for violoncello and orchestra HÉRUKA; it is with this favorite work that he made contact with the office of musical creation of Radio-France (directed by René BOSC) who orders him very quickly a work for large orchestra intended for the  Orchestre NATIONAL de FRANCE.
He was accepted, 1st nominated, to the Entrance Competition to be a member of the Artistic Section of CASA de VELAZQUEZ (Madrid-Spain) in June 2001.
From September 2001 to August 2003, he stayed at CASA de VELASQUEZ, a very important moment in his creative life, where he met many artists and scientists who enrich his world of composer.
"SATURNE" is created by the NATIONAL Orchestra of France under the direction of Fabien GABEL during the opening of the Présences festival in 2003. Following this festival, he is contacted by the ORCHESTRE NATIONAL du CAPITOLE de TOULOUSE which was considering to create a composer's residency, probably the most recorded French orchestra of the past 50 years under the impulse and the beautiful conducting of Michel PLASSON.
From 2004 to 2006, he became the first Composer in Residence in the history of the ORCHESTRE NATIONAL du CAPITOLE de TOULOUSE for which he has composed 3 works which constitutes his "GAUTAMA-SYMPHONIE" (56’).

Some highlights of this residency were the creations of « The AWAKENING » in SAN-SEBASTIAN-KURSAAL, "BIRTH and LIFE of FAMILY" in the Great Hall of the CONCERTGEBOUW of AMSTERDAM (Netherlands), as well as "DHARMA and PARANIRVANA" in the Grand Auditorium Olivier MESSIAEN of Maison de RADIO-FRANCE on February 12, 2006 where this orchestra had never played before.

His works have performers, alike: Emmanuel Strosser, François Salque, David Alan Miller, Jaap Van Zweden, Yannick Nézet-Seguin, Josef Swensen,Laurent Petitgirard, Denis Pascal, Jan Orawiec, the Ensembles Ictus and Télémaque, Soli-tutti, TM+,  Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, l’Orchestre Symphonique National du Portugal dans de grands festivals de création musicale comme Présences à Radio-France (2003, 2004 & 2006) , Montréal Nouvelles Musiques (2003), ENSEMS Valencia (2003), MARE NOSTRUM Estoril Portugal (2004) et Robeco Zommerkonzerten au CONCERTGEBOUW d’Amsterdam (2005), Théâtre du CHATELET Orchestre PADELOUP (Paris-2010), Salle PLEYEL Orchestre Colonne (Paris-2011), Festival les Grandes Heures de Cluny (Bourgogne 2013- à l’invitation de Guy Touvron), Orchestre de l’Opéra de ROUEN (2015). 
De 2007 à 2012, he assumes the direction of conservatories of Saint-Michel sur Orge (Essonne) and Villeneuve le Roi (Val de Marne).
En octobre 2012, he became the professor of composition, orchestration and musical theory (harmony, counterpoint & fugue) of the Conservatory of ROUEN.As such, he is one of the actors at the origin of the creation of the MASTER: Musicology and Composition_creation for the audio-visual and the living spectacle_ of the University of ROUEN-Mont Saint-Aignan (NORMANDY) in partnership with the conservatoire, of which he assumes half of the teachings. The composers of this cycle come from various countries, including France, China and Iran.
Since September 2014, Jean-Philippe Bec holds the position of French territorial public service as Professor of Artistic Education.
At the origin, he is one of the creator for this MASTER: Musicology and Composition for the audiovisual and the living spectacle of the University of Rouen-Mont Saint-Aignan (NORMANDY) in partnership with the conservatory, do not suppose half of the lessons. The composers of this cycle of studies come from various countries, France, China and Iran.
Since September 2014, Jean-Philippe Bec holds the position of French territorial public service as Professor of Artistic Education.
